Dear Andrew Sterling,=0A=0A&nbsp; &nbsp; When you are looking at a job t=
hat requires a permit according to city code how do you proceed? &nbsp;S=
ince you can&#39;t file for a permit yourself do you just ignore it?=0D=
=0A=0D=0AI can&#39;t tell you how you should handle it but I will tell y=
ou how I do.=0D=0A=0D=0AI make sure I am honest with my customers about=
 the city requirements, I explain the safety and reasons for it. &nbsp;I=
 explain that if it is an improvement that could increase square footage=
 and value they should get a permit. &nbsp;I explain how it will work an=
d that they would be filing for permit as the owner but that I will go w=
ith them,&nbsp;&nbsp;assist and meet with the inspectors throughout the=
 job=0D=0A=0D=0A&nbsp; &nbsp; Most customers choose to do things without=
 a permit trusting me to complete the job properly but the most importan=
t thing is for them to make the decision themselves. &nbsp;Explain to th=
em the risks of an inspector coming across a job not permitted or a neig=
hbor complaining that could cost them a whole lot of money. &nbsp;They s=
hould know the risks and take on that responsibility themselves.=0D=0A=
=0D=0A&nbsp; &nbsp; I have done many jobs not permitted without issue in=
cluding &nbsp;additions, carports, patio covers, roofing etc. &nbsp;One=
 of the first things I always ask them is about their relationship with=
 their neighbors to make sure there isn&#39;t a concern for complaint.=
